On Cape May Live's Facebook page, Jane Hickman wrote: "At a few minutes after 2 p.m. today, my house shook and I felt and heard rumblings from the direction of the ocean. Is the Coast Guard doing something? If I didn’t know better, I would say it was an earthquake."

And Benjamin Wade wrote, "I wonder if it has something to do with what’s been killing the whales!!"

On Jan. 11, unconfirmed reports of an earthquake or "seismic-like event" stretched from Newton and Sparta in Sussex County to as far east as the Palisades in Alpine beginning at 12:52 p.m.
